Interment service costs are much more than just simply opening and closing the grave. The facts are there are many different labor, material, and service charges included in the grave opening fee paid at the time of death. There are many expenses included in addition to the labor charge to dig the grave. They include: 

• Pre-burial procedures such as assisting family and friends, recording updates, grief support service, and many more. 

• The actual opening and closing the grave. Costs will vary depending on burial type: Traditional casket burial, Cremains burial, or Green burial.

• Directing the interment service such as escorting the funeral procession and generally assisting funeral director. 

• Supplying equipment and material and when necessary, returning equipment. 

• Cemetery overhead expenses. Such maintenance of building, grounds and roads.
